Publishing and the like

The publishing world is sometimes a confusing on to sort through. I've been researching publishing companies and the like for about a month now. It has my head spinning. Which are the good ones and which are the bad?
As a new author, my choices are to wait and hope that some one picks me up. Or take matters into my own hands and cause a wave. Me being me, I'll go out and make a big wave. The trouble is shorting through the best way to do that.
My novel, Dark Forgiveness, is in editing. I have a cover designer and a promoter. Now, my big question is...what company do I use to print the book? There are so many scams that it's hard to find the repeatable companies. I'll find one and be on my way but in the mean time...I have to wonder...is there honesty left in the business world?
